41 Class Cancellation and Coverage

I’m unable to teach my class today

If you are unable to attend your class(es) because of illness or an emergency, you need to inform both your students and your Dean’s Office / Department Assistant. Notify your students through e-mail and your Dean’s Office / Department Assistant. For student e-mail addresses, you can access your class list through Online Self Service. Remember to send your e-mail notifications to your students’ KPU e-mail address.

You will need to provide the following information to your students and the Dean’s Office:

  • Name of instructor
  • Course / Section / Room / Time / Date of cancelled class

NOTE: Class cancellation procedure has changed as of January 1, 2016. The Facilities Services Office is no longer part of the process, so class cancellation notices will no longer be posted on doors. Instead, students will be informed that classes will be considered to be officially cancelled if instructors are not in class after 15 minutes.

I have an upcoming planned absence that affects my classes

Contact the Dean’s Office / Department Assistant via email as soon as you are aware of the need to be absent with the following information:

  • a brief description of the reason for your absence
  • the course and section number
  • duration of the absence, and
  • date and time of class(es) to be missed.
