For Instructors: How to Use this OER
This Open Educational Resource (OER) is made up of 10 chapters: Inclusion Matters, Words Matter, Belonging Matters, Representation Matters, Names Matter, Accessibility Matters, Indigenous Voices Matter, 2SLGBTQIA+ Voices Matters, Equity Matters, and Change, Allyship, and Taking Action Matter.
Using the menu on the left side of the screen, click on a chapter title (e.g., Inclusion Matters) to explore why this topic is vital in both the classroom and the workplace.
Each chapter includes three key components:
- Written stories from KPU students, alumni, and staff with lived experience who generously shared their voices for this project.
- Video clips of students, alumni, and faculty, as well as student-written case studies designed for use in teaching and discussion. Many include reflection questions to help guide dialogue and deepen learning.
- Resources and suggested activities for educators who are ready to take action.
My hope is that you approach this resource with an open heart and mind. These are Untold Stories shared with courage and trust. Listen deeply. Reflect not just on what the story is about, but on the role you play, and the impact you can have.
Let this be a starting point for meaningful, respectful, and compassionate conversations about how we can do better—for our students, our peers, our colleagues, and ourselves. May this resource inspire you to uncover the untold stories in your own classrooms, communities, and institutions.
These conversations haven’t always had space in education but they are needed. It’s time to make the invisible visible. Let’s centre marginalized voices. Let’s reflect. Let’s act. Let’s create change.
