This Open Education Resource (OER) is the result of the tireless commitment and collaborative work of a team of faculty editors from Kwantlen Polytechnic University, Thompson Rivers University, and the University of North Dakota. Ultimately, though, it is the needs of our students for accessible and culturally relevant research learning that has provided the primary source of motivation for the development of OER resources such as this.
A number of people generously provided their expertise and feedback at various stages throughout the creation of this text. Our heartfelt thanks to Chris Giles (KPU) and Garth Davies (SFU) for their expert knowledge and contributions in the area of quantitative data analysis; to Christina Lennox (Capilano University) for their expertise and editorial consultation on Indigenous frameworks; to Dr. Wendelin Hume (University of North Dakota) for her Indigenous expertise and consultation on the entire text; and to Amanda Grey (KPU) for her commitment to guide us and to provide OER expertise at every stage of the development of this open education resource. We also want to thank Mary Lou (KPU student) for her efforts to create accessible graphics for the text, Nadja Lepojevic (KPU student) for her efforts in compiling openly licensed images and summarizing literature, Morgan Schell-Ware (TRU student) for their work in compiling additional open access learning resources for each chapter, and Dr. Jennifer Armstrong (Langara faculty) and Micael Kuate (Langara student) for their work in creating some of the ancillary materials for the book. A special thanks to Chris Burns (KPU) for assisting with citations, Dr. Ari Goelman (KPU) for his expert consultation on research methodologies and Dr. Isabel Scheuneman Scott for her expert consultation on Indigenous research ethics.
Financial assistance that made this project possible came from the KPU Open Education Grant Program, TRU’s Open Press Grant, Langara’s Kaleidoscope Fund, the KPU Criminology Department, KPU’s Education Leave Funds, and TRU’s sabbatical leave program.
Finally, we are grateful for the dedication, patience, and expertise of our contributing authors and for the support of our families, friends, and our wonderful colleagues.
