Situating the Author: Karleen Delaurier-Lyle

My name is Karleen Delaurier-Lyle, I am an Indigiqueer librarian from the University of British Columbia, Vancouver. Delaurier comes from my mother’s side of the family, we are Swiss and French through my grandfather and Italian and Québécois from my grandmother. Lyle comes from our adoptive family on my father’s side. On my father’s side we are Anishinaabe (Ojibwe/Swampy Cree). We are from the Wesley family that came from Fort Albany and married into the Trout family in Lac Seul. My great grandmother Emily Wesley married into the Baptiste family from Berens River through Fred Baptiste. I am a member of Berens River First Nation and was born and raised on unceded Syilx territory in Rutland, British Columbia.

I have a background in Indigenous Studies and Gender & Women’s Studies. I received my Master of Library and Information Studies from UBC-V’s iSchool with the First Nations Curriculum Concentration. I am currently the Information Services Librarian at Xwi7xwa Library (UBC Library) located on unceded Musqueam territory and I live on shared Musqueam, Squamish, and Tseil-Waututh territories.
