Style Note
This style note reflects the volume’s broader editorial aim: to make the profiles accessible to general readers, useful to scholars, and respectful of the multilingual literary worlds represented here. Biographical details, including dates and places of birth, are included when available and when relevant to the profile. Because this volume gathers writers from multilingual and transnational contexts, some details vary in availability across profiles. The profiles therefore aim for consistency while also respecting the limits of currently available documentation.
This volume follows Canadian spelling, using the Oxford Canadian Dictionary as the primary spelling authority, and MLA 9 for citations and works cited entries. For matters not covered by MLA, we have consulted The Chicago Manual of Style, 18th edition.
Writer names are given in the form preferred by the individual writer whenever known. Titles of books, collections, anthologies, magazines, newspapers, dissertations, and theses appear in italics; titles of poems, stories, essays, articles, and other short works appear in double quotation marks. English translations of non-English titles are provided where reliable and useful.
The volume uses readable romanization rather than scholarly transliteration with diacritical marks. Author and publisher spellings are retained where known. Isolated Nepali and other non-English words in English prose are generally italicized, while proper nouns, including names of people, organizations, associations, publishers, and institutions, appear in roman type. Translations are ours unless otherwise noted.
Dates from the Bikram Sambat (B.S.) calendar are converted to Common Era (C.E.) dates where possible, with both forms sometimes given when useful or when precision is uncertain. Dates and the names of the publishers have been provided based on their availability at the time of research. What remains absent will be updated, if and when they become available. Repeated author names are written out in works cited sections rather than replaced with three hyphens, in keeping with accessibility practices.
