Module 3 – Week 6 Online Classroom Dynamics (Joerdis Facilitator Lead)

Welcome to Week 6: Module 3 – Classroom Dynamics
by Joerdis Weilandt – Sunday, 3 November 2019, 5:40 PM

Dear all,

Our online conversations have turned down significantly in the last three weeks, which we take as an indication of increasing demands in your regular lives. We fully understand how much additional work our course must cause you, but we also know that with whatever time and effort you can afford to put in will be rewarded in the form new ideas or slight changes in your online teaching approaches.

We want to thank all those of you who have shared their insights with the cohort and hope that you can make use of the future collaborative activities to continue the collegial exchange. Please note that we will no longer track and re-enroll those student who get expelled from this course after 2 full weeks of inactivity. Those who get unenrolled, can access all resources in an unfacilitated space at the end of this term.

For week 6, there will fewer activities to do. If you are curious to delve into some theories relating group dynamics, you can start by doing the first two activities this week (6.1 + 6.2). If however, you need to address student behaviour online, move ahead to doing activity 6.3. If Wikipedia assignment have caught your interest, feel free to continue the editing in the article you assigned yourself.

I will provide some final instructor feedback remarks on your 5.3 research summary contributions on Wednesday, so you will have time to catch up by either adding your questions and/ or sharing strategies to dealing with diverse learners online here.

Otherwise there are no staggered deadlines, meaning you can proceed to completing the tasks of your choice before Sunday, the 10th of November 2019, before midnight. Please check the Schedule for Week 6 here.

I am sure we can all make it to Reading week, which is only a little more than a week away,

Joerdis

Week 6 Update
by Joerdis Weilandt – Friday, 8 November 2019, 1:37 PM

Dear all,

The long weekend and Reading Week are VERY close and I wanted to wish you a few enjoyable days, or at least some quiet time for those who  stay and need to focus on specific work matters.

I also wanted to let you know that I will not be able to extend the time until my final feedback this week since I will be starting to teach a rather intensive custom course to a group of Mayan women students who will be visiting the UofL campus soon.

You’ll receive final feedback on Module 3 this coming Monday and hope that those of you who are interested in

  • exploring Theory of group work
  • evaluating resources related to group work,
  • identifying applicable strategies to address online classroom dynamics, and/ or
  • continuing editing in Wikipedia

will have time to dig into the activities until then. A few of your peers have invited your to share your perspectives with them, so it could be a good opportunity for you to (re)-connect.

See the schedule and links to the respective activities here https://kpu.pressbooks.pub/flof/chapter/week-6-title/.
