TEACHING INTENTIONS:

The selected reading was chosen to help expose learners to background knowledge in the area of online facilitation strategies, which will be the basis of future group discussions (Tomasek, 2009) in this module.  Further, the reading acts as a form of modelling in that it demonstrates how higher education instructors can use Gilly Salmon’s Five Stage Model to facilitate engaging online learning activities.
