5.3 Summary of Research ~1hr

Share Your Answer to the Question of Choice

PURPOSE OF THE TASK: This task will provide an opportunity for participants to communicate their research results in formats of their personal preference. The results will be shared with the course so as to build an extensive knowledge base relating to facilitator interactions with online learners.

TECHNOLOGY: Students will re-use the Etherpad introduced in 5.2

INSTRUCTIONS: Based on your individual research into your topic of choice relating to working with diverse learners online, provide an answer to the question you chose in 5.2. Answer the question by synthesizing the information you have accessed while researching your topic of choice. Post your summary next to the question on our shared Etherpad. Put your name behind the summary, so we know who to associate the answer with and address possible responses to.

TEACHING INTENTIONS:

This task is a representation of the UDL principle to provide multiple means of representation (CAST (2018) by allowing students to choose their preferred format for researching information and accessing content.

The set up of this activity utilizes a cooperative learning method known as Jigsaw, which allows for the co-construction of knowledge through independent student contributions. Jigsaw provides “individual accountability and yet require shared responsibility in a distributed learning environment.” (Blocher, 2005)
